(Dispatch) 21:45 ** F-FIRE-RESIDENTIAL ** 6663 COLLAMER RD ** -FLY RD SIDE ** ** M911 RE: BATHRO ** LAW DR AND FLY RD **
Last night, as members were putting rigs back in service from our weekly company drill, Onondaga County Dispatch alerted units of a possible residential fire at the corner of Fly and Collamer Road. Caller reported a fire in the first floor bathroom.
Car 1 (Chief Brewster), Car 2 (Asst. Chief Shields), Car 4 (Acting Asst. Chief Marsely), Engine 1 (FF Fitzge...rald), Engine 2 (Captain Russell), Engine 4 (FF Boyle), and Truck 1 (Lt. Russell) took in the initial alarm.
Car 2 arrived to find light smoke coming from the rear apartment and reported a small fire in the bathroom. Engine 2 came in first due and entered the apartment to find heavier smoke toward the rear and an active fire in the bathroom. Engine 4 was second due and secured a hydrant and waited to deploy a hand line. Engine 2s crew was able to knock down the bulk of the fire with a water can containing the fire to the bathroom sink cabinet and adjacent wall. Engine 4 then assisted with opening up the wall to confirm that the fire had not extended. Truck 1 and Engine 1 assisted with ventilation and minor overhaul.
Damage was contained to the corner of the bathroom and no injuries were reported. Units cleared in 40 minutes. The cause of the fire was determined to be a towel that was too close to a lit candle in the bathroom.
