I talked with my father and brother yesterday after Dad was honored. He was truly surprised and pleased. Thank you for all you have done for him. As you know the fire dept has been a big part of his life. It meant a great deal to him (and us).

The fire at Springfield Garden Apartments was heartbreaking. But in the midst of a horrible situation, there is much to be said about the countless people and organizations who came together in the face of adversity to help members of their community in need.

I would like to thank the DeWitt Police Department, who not only helped to keep traffic organized throughout the day, but also saved a woman when another few seconds would have claimed her life. Thank you to the East Syracuse, DeWitt, Minoa, Fayetteville, and Lyncourt Fire Departments for working throughout the day non-stop, in bitter cold conditions, to keep residents safe while putting their own lives at risk. Thanks to the Ladies' Auxiliary for providing coffee and snacks for the firefighters, and the American Red Cross for their amazing efforts and calm demeanor in a crisis situation. Thank you to my incredible staff at Springfield Gardens for multi-tasking and not leaving until everything was settled, and to LeMoyne College for offering their Athletic Center as a warm place for displaced residents to gather. Finally, thank you to the countless residents of Springfield Gardens who comforted those who endured great loss, Longley Jones Management Corporation, who were true professionals, and the Town of DeWitt People In Action Program and Jamesville-Dewitt School District for their active support of the families who lost all of their belongings in the fire.

I am so very grateful that no one was seriously injured in the fire, and I am proud to be a part of a community that can come together like this to help others.

I enjoy reading your news section and miss being with the best Fire Department in Onondaga County. I don't miss sitting across from Chief Cramer in those old open cab trucks in the cold months back in the day... Keep up the great work!
